We are cancer free!
About a month ago, Sabrina had her yearly blood drawn for the heartworm pill season and her liver enzymes were elevated. I brought her in for the day at the vets to have a series of blood draws to help us determine what this might be. There were three possibilities but we still couldn't "name" it so...
We went back to the vets for xrays and an ultra sound. Dave found a very enlarged liver, which means she had a tumor on her liver. We talked about the possibilities and decided that we needed to take a biopsy and send it to the lab to be looked at. I decided that instead of going in and just taking the liver out, we would go in with a laparoscope so Dave could look around and find out what he might be up against if we decided to take it out.
Dr. Dave found that one of her lobes was very large, another lobe was also enlarged and there were three spots (like it had spread) were on two more lobes (a dogs liver has 6 lobes or parts). At the time, we thought it was cancer or malignant.
We waited for the results to come back from the pathologist and had amazing news. The tumors are benign! She doesn't have cancer! We do have liver disease, however, and are just going to monitor very closely for now!
Sabrina will be 12 in June and I am TOTALLY thrilled and very relieved that the news was so good.
